Helicopter Training

ATS is one of the very few helicopter training facilities in South Africa which provides instruction on the Robinson R22, R44 and Alouette II helicopters (see our fleet). We provide full helicopter flight training from basic pilot training to instructor ratings. Our heli training is open to anyone who wants to learn how to fly, including many overseas students.

The Robinson R22 is the most widely used helicopter for helicopter pilot courses and has become the platform on which almost all heli training is initiated around the world. Both the Robinson R22 & R44 helicopters are very challenging machines to fly and therefore are excellent heli training aircraft. Helicopter training on the Robinson’s ensure that students develop a solid foundation for both their Private pilot license and Commercial Pilot License with the guidance of a top quality helicopter trainer.

If the Robinson helicopters are not your cup of tea and you feel like really getting your teeth into the flying discipline, ATS also provides heli training on the turbine Alouette II. The helicopter flight training you will receive on this lovely machine will undoubtedly give you a head start in the industry. It goes without saying that valuable experience will be gained by building hours on what is a very powerful, yet easy to handle turbine helicopter.

Is it your ambition to go beyond your Private Pilot’s License? Then you will be pleased to know that, at ATS, we provide structured commercial flight courses for all our students, which will develop you from your Private Pilot License (PPL) right through to your Commercial Pilot's License which includes:

Instructor's rating
Night rating
Turbine rating

ATS also boasts the luxury of two in-house designated flight examiners - they are qualified and authorised by CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) to conduct all heli flight tests and ratings. They are,also qualified to present advanced courses in Restricted and General Radio licenses.

ATS is indeed a one-stop helicopter flight school from flight training to examination centre and you would not need to go anywhere else for any part of your licencing needs.
