Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why is the helicopter charter more expensive than the aeroplane (fixed wing) charter?
For the same number of seats, comparing aeroplane and helicopter, the helicopter is about 6 times more expensive than an aeroplane. This is also true for maintenance on helicopters, which is also a lot more expensive than aeroplane maintenance.
2. Why do you need the weight of every passenger ?
The pilot in command takes responsibility for the flight you are about to depart on. All aircraft have weight limitations, even when you fly in a Boeing or an Airbus. On these big machines, it is assumed that you weigh 85 kg and this averages out if you carry almost 300 people.
Since we fly much smaller machines, the passenger weight restrictions are much more pertinent to be observed by the pilot in command than on bigger aeroplanes.
3. Can the helicopter land anywhere in an open space?
Generally speaking, yes, but if the landing site is situated in a built-up area, permission needs to be obtained from the landowner and the Civil Aviation Authority.
4. What would be the best option – a helicopter or a fixed wing?
This all depends on where you want to go. If it is a flight to an area where there are no landing strip facilities available for an aeroplane to land on, then the helicopter makes sense.
Nothing can beat the versatility of a helicopter to be able to take you to the mine or crushers, the lodge or the building site or the road being built. The scenarios are many.
Then off course, the publicity value of arriving in a helicopter as a Public Relations exercise or brand building exercise.
5. Will it be quicker to fly with a helicopter?
Over short distances, nothing can beat a helicopter. This holds true for flights up to an hour in a helicopter. The helicopter can take off and proceed to where you want to be at your destination, whereas the aeroplane has to land at an aerodrome and then you have to be transported to the site by means of a motor vehicle. If you flew by helicopter, you will save a lot of time doing so
6. How far can you fly with a helicopter?
Flying with a helicopter is not measured in distance but in time. Example : A Helicopter can fly more or less 3 hours before it needs to be refuelled. The distance depends on weather, weight, and specific conditions.
7. How many people can fly together in a helicopter?
Depending on the helicopter type, up to 7 passengers can be transported.
8. Which helicopter best suits aerial photography?
The Robinson R44 can comfortably seat 2 passengers and will be the most economical for the photographer.
