Wessel van den Bergh
Wessel van den Bergh - Managing Member and Gr I Instructor

Wes, as everybody affectionately calls him, is the owner of ATS. Wes was originally a musician, yet his love for flying eventually drew him into the aviation industry.

Wes proceeded to qualify and operate as a Training Captain for both South African Express Airways and Swiss International Airlines in Switzerland.

When he migrated to the world of helicopters, Wes was one of the first Pilots in the South African Police Services and was also an Inspector in the South African Civil Aviation Department for five years.

Wes currently holds the licensing/authority as a Grade I Designated Flight Examiner and Grade I Instructor on both Aeroplanes and Helicopters and is a highly respected pilot and friend in the aviation world. Wes has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and it is always a pleasure to fly the skies with him.

Jeanne van den Bergh
Jeanne van den Bergh - General Manager

Jeanne has been with the company since July 2007. She is responsible for all the bookkeeping and financial matters. On top of this, Jeanne manages the accommodation for students and clients in the guesthouse which the company owns and operates near Grand Central Airport.

When you meet the gentle soul, you will realise why Jeanne is a registered social worker who dedicates much of her time to welfare organisations. Having said this, it follows naturally that she is also responsible for the well being of the staff and has, over the past few years, become the mother figure to all at ATS.

Ivan van Rooyen
Ivan van Rooyen - GR II Instructor

Ivan was born and raised in Johannesburg not so many years back.  His passion for helicopters is evident by the fact that he started flying helicopters when he was in Grade 11 at school. He successfully completed his PPL helicopter before his driver’s license!

When Ivan finished school, he studied full time for his Commercial Pilot’s license, which he obtained in June 2008. After completing his Night, Instrument and turbine ratings, he was trained by ATS to become a Helicopter Instructor.

On the successful completion of this training, Ivan was employed by ATS as a full time Pilot and Instructor.

We are very proud that Ivan obtained his ATP Licence on Helicopter in October 2010. His motivation, passion and dedication makes him a very popular Instructor to all of our students.  Ivan is also recently appointed as the CFI of the training division of ATS Helicopters and he strives to train safe and proficient helicopter pilots at ATS

Shaun Barendsen
Shaun Barendsen - Gr III Instructor - Part time & Charter Pilot

Shaun joined ATS Helicopters in May 2008 to do his night rating and since then he has completed his Commercial Pilots licence, Instructors licence and numerous conversion to turbine types.
Shaun has a passion for flying and became part of the ATS family whilst still working in the IT industry and has done all the training and exams part time. Because of his passion, Shaun has joined ATS on all the mountain flying courses as well as the coastal flying weekends.
It is such a pleasure to have him on the team to fill in when he is available for Instruction and
Charters. His passion and dedication is exactly why he is a part of the ATS team.

Sabrina Valentine
Sabrina Valentine - Operations manager

Sabrina was born in Pretoria and joined ATS in July 2008. She is the Operations Manager who, at the same time, keeps all the helicopters’ paperwork current for CAA and CAA inspections. She has been instrumental in the development of ATS’s tracking and monitoring systems and has contributed greatly to the streamlining of the company’s operations.
Like everything else at ATS, the passion has infected Sabrina too and she has recently commenced her training as a helicopter pilot with ATS. Her goal of becoming a pilot keeps her motivated and inspired and in turn undoubtedly will inspire many students too.

Michelle Simon
Michelle Simon - Office assistant and PPL(H)

Michelle joined the ATS team in September 2010. She is responsible for the general office duties and a great help for Sabrina in organising the online examinations. Michelle is also in charge of the accommodation duties at the Heli Inn.

Michelle discovered her passion to become a helicopter pilot in January 2005 whilst still at school. The first flip in a helicopter totally overwhelmed her and she decided that this would be her career.

Michelle obtained her PPL licence in Port Elizabeth, her home town and ventured out to experience more advanced flying in Gauteng. Whilst building her hours and following her dream to fly, she is also busy with her CPL subjects.

Joseph Mashaba
Joseph Mashaba - Hanger Staff

Joseph joined the ATS team in 2008. In the two years that Joseph is with ATS, he has shown a high degree of dedication and commitment to his work.
The many aspects of hangar operations appeal to him as he finds the work challenging yet stimulating. Joseph plays an important role in ensuring that all operations at ATS run to schedule and to the satisfaction of both management and students/clients of ATS.
